You entertained the world but each performance felt like it was just for me. You spread the message of love, peace and understanding and even when you were Bad, you were good. A good man is what you were, unfortunately this world is designed to destroy good people. But the world can not destroy a good legacy. I remember growing up and listening to you, attempting to do the moon walk and mimicking your moves from Thriller. All my friends know you and all of my family. It was like you were apart of my family and I just assumed that you would always be there. But now you're not. But I am grateful to God for allowing you to share your gift. I must remember that you never belonged to me or this world. You belonged to God, an unselfish God. So unselfish that he blessed this world with your presence. They say the King is dead but you are still present in my heart, my walk, my talk and you continue to inspire my creativity.

I'm black and I'm not rich,
Statistics say that I should be in a ditch.
But the people who write those
Didn't consider how hard my flow goes.
Or how determination separates me from the rest of the pack.
Because once I got a taste of success there was no turning back.
People pretend like they love you and I find that funny
Because they probably wouldn't love me if I wasn't making money.
But it's cool,
Because I'm no fool.
It takes a lot more to get to me, I mean I went to Annapolis High School.
I use all this adversity to fuel my flame.
So if you think about it for my success, the haters are to blame.
So I thank God for making me this wonderful creation.

Memory Lane

Back on the road, yeah I'm gone again.
I had to make a stop and I lost a friend.
It's funny cause we swore that it'll never end.
But time has proven us wrong again.
I'm driving on past sweet memory lane.
I'm trying not to laugh but it's such a strain.

and my face has broken.

I was laughing so hard that I spit up my coke.

Modern Day Romeo

Wilhelmina Slater is a fictional character from the ABC dramedy series Ugly Bettywho is played by Vanessa Williams. An added note, Vanessa received a supporting actress nomination at the 59th Emmy Awards for her role. Her character is absolutely evil and always well dressed. She has her moments where she does appear to be good but then shortly after she reminds you that shes noone's angel. It's the classic character that you love to hate. I honestly could not imagine anyone else playing her role, check out this clip:

The places you will go

Photographed above is me at the 2008/2009 HGRC (which I am the Secretary of) celebration of graduates where my community gave praise to those of us who graduated last year and this year. We got a $50 gift card to Wal-Mart and a book written by Dr. Seuss entitled, "The places you will go." As we all went up and accepted our gifts we said what we were up to now and our future aspirations. I was very pleased to hear where everyone was and planned to go. With so much negativity in the world it was nice to see people come together and celebrate something good. We had the grill going and a DJ playing and people just having a good time.

John Lass

I just write what i feel...

words spoken by John Lass, a D.C. native trying to make his way into the music industry and provide people with a sense of real hip-hop. I'm sure some of you know him, or have at least heard of him. But how much do you really know about John Lass? Whether it be a lot or not much at all I'm sure this is a post you wouldn't want to miss. So sit back in your chairs and adjust your screens it's time for the John Lass Show.

John is a Hip-Hop artist, poet and lyricist. Today, his favorite artist include Jay-z, Kanye West, Wale, Chris bars, Keep It Raw, etc. But his love of music started when he was young and only intensified as the years went on. All my life music was around me. My dad use to play go-go music all the time and fresh prince and music like that. It definitely grew on me. In middle school I sung (yeah i sung lol) in the talents shows they had and did pretty good 'till in 8th grade. I was free styling and people said, 'hey that was pretty good' and that's when i got serious about it. If you visit his myspace you will see just how serious he is. He has a few tracks on there, one of is a song entitled, "cut me deep." The song is a coming of age story in which he reflects on some of his most memorable moments. John goes from getting in a car accident to getting caught with a girl and everything in between. I went into my life and dug up some memories that i felt like 'damn like did that really happen to me.' It was made for the listeners to show emotion whether they laughed or said damn that's messed up, long as they felt something i did my job.

"So(ul) Vacant" is another good track and my favorite thus far. It features a lady by the name of Nia Keturah and examines what happens when dealing with an emotionally distant lover. I'm sure we can all relate to this as I know we've all been there at some point or another. When asked to describe his musical style he said my style is what I like to call 'Floetry', poetry mixed with flowing lyrically.

By the way, have you noticed his clothing in the photographs? I wonder what his wardrobe consists of? LOL, like people ask me all the time 'why would u pay $500 for some Gucci sneakers?' or '$400 for some Pradas?' or '$219 for True Religion jeans?' In my mind I'm like, 'because I'm an asshole who loves to be well dressed..." lol...but really I work real hard and I need to treat myself every now and then I'm sure others can attest to that...but yeah i guess from my clothing choices Ive earned the nickname Johnye" (besides the fact i was in a car accident also)..but yeah my style of dressing for the most part is fun and sometimes laid back and that says "John Lass."

He sounds self-centered, right? But he's not. He lists family as his number one priority and when he makes it he plans to make sure they come up straight as well. He is also conscious about the things he raps about and makes sure his rhymes are parallel to his life. He refuses to talk about murder, guns or drugs unless used metaphorically. I feel like why would I rap about something I don't do or live. . . He lives by the quote, "joy wouldn't feel so good with out pain" and just wants his listeners to vibe with him and feel what he feels.

Let Me Upgrade ya!

So I purchased the Blackberry 8900 yesterday and got a great deal on it. It only cost me $109 (plus tax, of course) and the lady who set me up with the phone also brought my sidekick 08. It was hard to part with it because I knew it so well. Kind of like a friend that you've known for years that was moving in a different direction. You had to seperate from them but you didn't want to, even though you were growing apart. But anyway. . .

Just A Little Bit

I know you all heard her on the So Far Gone album by Drake, b/c that's where I first heard her. She goes by the name of Lykke Li and she is an incredible talent from Sweden. Her indie-rock debut album Youth Novels came out in 2008 and the track entitled little bit was sampled by none other than Drake himself. So I stumbled upon this guy from a four page spread in V magazine, the winter 2008/2009 issue to be exact. As soon as I turned the page the pictures just grabbed me and sucked me in. He is an awesome photographer but I really enjoy his underwater work. There is just something relaxingly haunting about them, if that makes sense.
